THE VALLEY PARTNERS

Agent Biography

JIM SOMERVILLE

Jim was born and raised in the Hawaiian Islands and is a true descendant of Henry Perrine Baldwin, an early Hawaiian Pioneer and owner of C & H Sugar Co., Maui Pine and Alexander & Baldwin. Jim was educated in Hawaii, where he attended the University of Hawaii and majored in Travel Industry Management. Jim followed his dreams of working in travel industry management with Sheraton Hotels after his 2 1/2 years of playing professional tennis on the ATP tour. He has lived on the Monterey Peninsula for the past 14 years, where he has honed the skills of being a reputable realtor with Sotheby's International Realty, formerly The Mitchell Group, earning him the reputation of being in the top 10% nationwide of Sotheby's International Realty realtors.

The real estate market today has become increasingly competitive and complex for sellers and buyers alike. Jim Somerville and Jon Sutherland formed the powerful Valley Partners duo to think ahead of the market's curves and provide seasoned experience in planning and negotiating the selling and buying of homes on the Monterey Peninsula. In the partnership of client and realtor relations, the Valley Partners believes in the importance of developing obtainable goals and thought-out planning to balance the desires and financing of real estate opportunities. The Valley Partners achieved the top 10% of real estate production nationwide for Sotheby's International Realty in 2005. They specialize in country estates, ranches, golf and coastal properties in Carmel-by-the-Sea, South Coast, Big Sur, Carmel Valley, Monterey and Corral de Tierra.

JON SUTHERLAND

Jon Sutherland's expertise in Hawaiian real estate can be accurately summed up in two words: local knowledge. An authentic Kama'aina with roots that go back to James Campbell, Jon was born on Oahu, educated at Punahou School and like many island-born kids, enjoyed football, volleyball, tennis, surfing and canoe paddling and later settled into golf. Jon's club affiliations are Waialae Country Club, the Outrigger Canoe Club and the Carmel Valley Ranch Resort in California.

Leaving Hawaii in the mid-1960s, Jon attended college, obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Business from Whittier College in Southern California. Upon returning to the islands after college, Jon initially went to work for Dillingham Corporation, then moved on after a year to Hawaiian Trust Company as a trust trainee. Entering the retail clothing business upon the death of his father, he subsequently managed the men's store his father had founded, known as Ross Sutherland, Ltd., for eight years before entering the real estate industry in 1978. Jon's immediate success in real estate resulted in his being asked by Mary Worrall to serve as Broker in Charge of the Maui branch office of a partnership known as Lawson, Worrall and Daily from 1980 to 1983. While there he supervised project sales and directed general brokerage efforts. After being asked to take a position as Vice President and Director in the Honolulu office of Worrall-McCarter, Inc., Jon returned to Oahu in 1983. Jon continues his long association with Mary Worrall in her present firm, Mary Worrall Associates.

Jon now divides his time between Honolulu and Carmel Valley, where he is associated with Sotheby's International Realty, specializing in high-end properties in and around the Monterey Peninsula. Jon's love of placing the right people with the right properties has expanded with this move.
